Homeopathy offers an effective treatment for #dengue fever in all its phases. It can be quick in halting the progression of dengue especially if caught early in its initial stage called the febrile phase. Early symptoms are of fever, headache and musculo-skeletal aches and pain. It’s known that dengue has no allopathic treatment per se. In fact, the use of allopathic drugs is strongly discouraged as it may lead to complications in the disease. So, homeopathic remedies provide a beneficial alternative to conventional treatments.
In September 2023, I shared a protocol (given below) that consisted of indicated remedies to match the symptoms of dengue fever. Today, on16th October 2025, a little over two years later as dengue season approaches, I am adding another homeopathic protocol used by a Pakistani homeopath, Dr. Ali Muhammad.
In early September 2023, an architect friend in Lahore called to ask whether he could give EUPATORIUM PERFOLIATUM to twelve of his builders who had dengue fever for the last three days. The debilitating fever and severe weakness meant that these labourers who work on daily wages brought home no income. He was also concerned about the rest of his team laboring during this peak season for dengue. Statistics show high incidence of dengue fever in Lahore during these transition months of September and October.
I shared this homeopathic remedy protocol for dengue with him. Not only is homeopathy a complete system of medicine, without side effects if used properly, it’s also a highly economical method of treatment. Just a single bottle of liquid potency can be used to treat not just whole families but entire neighbourhoods. These are the three homeopathic remedies that feature in a general dengue fever treatment protocol.
- EUPATORIUM PERFOLIATUM 30C
- CARICA PAPAYA Q
- LEDUM PALUSTRE 6C or 30C
Before going into how and when these remedies can be taken for dengue, some words of caution. Keep the following three don’ts in mind, so that the dengue fever won’t go into its complicated picture

															DON’T TAKE NSAIDS OR STEROIDS
NSAIDS are the class of meds that include IBUPROFEN, ASPIRIN, ADVIL, NAPROXEN and TYLENOL. Stay away from painkiller injections and STEROID medication, too. Most people reach out for these drugs when they have headache, body pain and fever. BIG NO NO! These meds lower platelets in the body and that puts people at risk. The dengue virus can drastically reduce platelet levels in the body. As a consequence, there’s bleeding which is a warning sign in dengue fever. So instead of moving into the recovery phase, such medicines can push the patient into dengue fever complications.
BEWARE OF THE CRITICAL PHASE OF DENGUE
Once the fever drops or subsides after 3-7 days, don’t be fooled into thinking, that’s it – recovered. This is the critical phase of dengue and it can be deceptive. Patient feels better and resumes normal activities and normal diet. Then suddenly there is severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, and bleeding. The bleeding can be nosebleeds, bleeding gums, and if worse then blood in urine or in the stool. Seek medical assistance immediately! Go to the hospital. Get blood tests done. If not managed properly, the critical phase can lead to dengue complications where there is dengue hemorrhagic fever. The platelets drop rapidly to dangerous levels, BP drops resulting in dengue shock syndrome.
KNOW THE SIGNS & SYMPTOMS OF DENGUE
Learn to recognize dengue’s first phase called the febrile phase. It may all begin with a headache that becomes really intense. Usually there’s a sudden onset of high fever that can spike to 104°F (40°C). For majority of cases, symptoms may be mild. For the most part, this phase can be managed at home, especially, if the patient has no underlying health issues. A sensible home treatment alongside the homeopathic remedy protocol can lead to good and quick recovery.
Dengue fever in this phase is often the ‘break-bone fever’ (Urdu:گردن توڑ بخار). The pain in the muscles and bones is so severe, it feels as if each joint in the body is breaking. Immense weakness and lethargy follow.
For this break-bone fever, the homeopathic remedy EUPATORIUM PERFOLIATUM 30C (Eup Per 30C) is most effective. Alongside, regular bathing and sponging the body is effective in reducing the fever. Administered properly, EUP PER 30C will bring down the fever and relieve the severe pain and discomfort in joints, bones and muscles.
Here’s a summary of the signs and symptoms of this first phase of dengue fever.
-
- Severe headache
- High fever
- Intense pain behind the eyes
- Skin rash. Small red spots appear on different parts of the body
- Nausea and vomiting
TREATMENT WITH EUPATORIUM PERFOLIATUM 30C (liquid potency)
The simplest method is to fill a glass bottle with ¼ litre water. Add 4 drops of the liquid potency. Shake well. One teaspoon of this remedy mixture is one dose. When the fever’s high, take one teaspoon every 10 minutes for an hour. Then when the fever drops, reduce dosage to hourly or two hourly. Make a new bottle of the remedy mixture if it runs out. Remember to shake the bottle well each time before dosing. And ALWAYS use a clean teaspoon. Taper off the remedy as patient starts feeling better. MAINTAIN GOOD FLUID INTAKE
Hydration is most important during dengue fever. Water, ORS, fresh fruit juices especially aloe vera, pomegranate, apple. Fluids and semi-solid diet with easy-to-digest foods. At the end of the day, your body is designed to heal itself, and therefore, needs to use all its energy resources to beat the virus. If it’s made to expend that energy in breaking down complex proteins, heavy fats and carbs, you’re just prolonging the suffering. Be kind to your body. Cooperate so that it can focus on the healing process.
TREATMENT WITH CARICA PAPAYA Q FOR LOW PLATELETS
To increase platelet levels, the homeopathic mother tincture CARICA PAPAYA Q is useful during this febrile phase and also in the recovery phase. In a teacup with lukewarm water, put 10-15 drops of Carica Papaya Q. Drink the whole contents. Do this 3-5 times a day, depending on your platelet count. Click here to purchase this mother tincture.
WHITE SKIN RASH – INDICATOR OF RECOVERY
A peculiarity of the recovery phase may be a skin rash where the spots are white and stand out against a background of reddish skin. It may be very itchy as well but bear with it and continue with the tapered doses of Eup Per 30c.
HOMEOPATHIC PREVENTATIVE FOR DENGUE
LEDUM 6C or LEDUM 30C keeps mosquitoes and all sorts of bugs away. During dengue season or in areas where mosquito infestations are present, people can add 2-3 drops of this homeopathic remedy in their drinking water. Stir it well or if in bottles, shake the bottle well. Click here to purchase this remedy.
A word of advice from another friend who recently recovered from dengue. Take extra care even after it’s over — even after the platelets return to normal. Don’t be surprised that it takes much longer to fully recover your strength even once all the dengue fever symptoms disappear. So be patient. Take things slow and keep your body well rested. Continue to eat a simple and nutritious diet.
HOMEOPATHIC PROTOCOL FOR DENGUE (Dr. Ali Muhammad)
Caution: This protocol should only be employed by qualified homeopathic practitioners and is not advisable for lay people to use since potency, dosage and remedy selection will vary according to the patient’s condition.
Dr. Ali Muhammad’s approach has two levels of treating dengue fever’s severity and intensity. The first level is miasmatic and the second one employs the genus epidemicus. The miasmatic approach uses nosodes to clear inherent weaknesses in the individual’s immune system. This can then pave the way for the genus epidemicus that is the remedy (or a group of remedies) which corresponds with the symptom picture common to most cases. Broadly, we get a protocol that looks like this:
- TUBERCULINUM Nosode 1M, One dose
- MALARIA Nosode 1M, One dose (given 15-30 minutes after Tuberculinum)
- CHINA SULPH CM, One dose (given 15-30 minutes after the Malaria nosode). This is the adult potency which will be lowered to China sulph 1M, thrice daily for two days and then further lowered to China sulph 200C, thrice daily for another 2-3 days. And then China sulph 30C for a few more days to complete the treatment. For children, the beginning potency is China sulph 1M, tapered down to 200C and then 30C.
This protocol is to stop the high fever, muscle pain and severe headache that signals the onset of the febrile stage. This stage is usually a 2-7 day period during which white blood cell (WBC) count may also start dropping. If the pathological progression has already set in and there is a severe drop in platelets (thrombocytopenia) and white blood cells (leukopenia) — dengue has entered its critical phase that is best understood as a complication of the disease. For this, Dr. Ali Muhammad prescribes two other big remedies that act effectively in stabilizing blood components affected by the disease:
- CROTALUS HORRIDUS 1M
- MILLEFOLIUM 1M
Dr. Ali Muhammad prescribes Crotalus horridus 1M, three times a day (morning, afternoon, and evening) for the first two days. He states that these six doses are often sufficient to halt the progressive drop in platelets. Alongside it, he recommends Millefolium 1M, also given three times daily, for its complementary action in stabilizing platelet count.
In his clinical experience, administering both remedies together over the first two days not only arrests the critical decline in blood components but also helps prevent the long-term after-effects of dengue. Dr. Ali has observed patients who, despite having recovered from dengue years earlier, continued to suffer from lingering consequences—the most common being anemia.
He further explains that, similar to malaria, dengue can cause lasting organ changes, particularly in the liver and spleen, due to prolonged disturbance in blood regulation. As a result, symptoms like chronic fatigue and unusual tiredness may persist for years — the Never Been Well Since (NBWS) condition.
To address this, he also recommends including the Dengue Nosode—either as an intermittent remedy or integrated into the initial protocol, especially when preceded by the Malaria Nosode, to support deeper recovery and constitutional balance.
